| no partners | | I had my friend Paul help me set up my Jeep at the Top of the Oracle Ridge Trail. The control road is closed right now for the winter so I parked it at the Fire Station. Paul was kind enough to drop me off at the Arizona Trail/Cody Trailhead near Oracle.
Unfortunately, I didn't get started until 3:15 so I knew I had to move quickly to avoid hiking too much in the dark. The trail for the most part was easy enough to follow. There are a couple spots that get questionable but overall smooth sailing. As I was approaching Dan saddle it started to get dark and the temps were dropping. I didn't bring a jacket but I had some light gloves in my pack. I took out my headlamp and the gloves to get ready for what would lie ahead. Then about a quarter mile further I realized I only had one of the gloves. I had both when I pulled them out of the pack so I went back and fortunately found it. This added about a half mile to my journey but it was a quick and easy find. I didn't have to worry about anyone picking it up since I hadn't seen anyone in miles. Come to think of it I only saw one man and his two goats on the whole hike. See photos of Goats. One of the funniest things ever.
Once past Dan Saddle I hit some snow on the North face but it wasn't bad. When I arrived at the Fire Station my Jeep was a welcome site as the temperature had dropped to 42 degrees. I would definitely hike this one again! In fact I will since it is part of the AZT! |
