| no partners | | I combined the Goldfield Ovens Loop with the Stewart Dam Petroglyphs loop, but I only hiked the outermost portions of each loop. the inner section that each loop shares appears to only be a wash, so it's not like I missed much. i did discover two trail junctions to the north from each of these loops by their intersections that looks like it might connect them farther north. Not sure if this is even worth checking out at a later date.
the hike was ok. views are nice, but a big section of the hike is the wash on the northern part of the loop and hiking by the Bush Highway isn't much of a thrill. if this trail is hiked counter-clockwise its easier to find a section of the horse trail that wanders away from the highway and probably takes you down to the SRP housing.
the petroglyphs were nice. Strange to see them isolated like that, but I'm sure there are others around that are normally not seen. Nice views of Saguaro Lake, Stewart Dam and Saguaro ranch.
I wasn't actively looking for the ovens, so I never found them. Not sure if they're really obvious or not. |
