| no partners | | Even with the rain in the forecast, I was determined to get out for a hike since my planned hike last week got cancelled due to a poorly timed flat tire. In the morning when I woke up, it looked like I might get skunked 2 weeks in a row, but by 8:30am the rain stopped. At 10am I called my friend Raphael and he was still up for it, so we decided to take a chance.
At the start, the rain came back, along with some chilly wind. I had only brought some light jackets for the kids and no ponchos, so it was looking a little iffy. I had originally planned to do the loop clockwise and have the petroglyphs be towards the end of the hike as a payoff. But since the weather looked like the kids might not last long in it, I decided to change it up and head straight for the petroglyphs.
We got there without too much hassle. the horse feces on the trail was just as (if not more) annoying than the rain. By the time we got to the petroglyphs and took a 10 min. break, the rain had stopped and the sun came out. So we decided to try the loop after all.
The sun remained out for the rest of the hike until we got back to the parking lot. Our timing couldn't have been better. I was really glad we took the chance and ended up with a nice hike. The kids really handled the distance well and didn't complain at all. On the last segment when you head south along the wash we saw what looked like a geocache and a javelina carcass. |
