There's nothing like the first time! Wife, Jude, and I hiked down So Kaibab, stayed 2 nights in dorms at Phantom Ranch and then hiked up the Bright Angel trail. All I can say is that's it's ALL down hill. No rest for those up hill muscles. You can view my log for the miles and times to get an idea of my conditioning. We made ourselves stop more than we usually do and had two 15-20 minute food breaks. My calfs and knees hurt the last two miles, but all OK for up hill climb out 2 days later. View from So. Kaibab much better than Bright Angel. Would do the same two trails in same order again.
