| no partners | | One of my favorite days of the year is April 15th! Today was finally the day that the FS opens up the Swift Trail on the backside & top of the Pinalenos Only problem was yesterday's morning storm dumped a more than expected amount of new snow on the top half of the mountains. I drove up knowing that is was probably enough to ruin my opening day upper forest hike plans, and it was I started hitting snow at Arcadia (6700 ft) and immediately turned around and drove back down the mountain for plan B. Plan B was something along Stockton Pass and after parking at Gillespie Well and having a 10 minute argument with myself over which trail, I just stayed put and hiked along P Ranch Canyon through, around & over the awesome boulder fields. I was bummed to not be hiking on top of the mountain, but P Ranch Canyon is always a very cool & scenic place to explore! I just hope that the new snow on top melts quickly, I have made some recent plans for up there. |
