| no partners | | This was the second hike for me this day. I went up the Parson's Trail earlier in the day. I arrived at the trailhead around 2pm. There were lots of cars. I forgot about all the tourist that visit Sedona. I had to remind myself that I'm one of them myself.
I hit the trail and started slow. I was a little sore from the earlier hike. Things started loosening up after roughly a mile. After hiking next to the resort you finally enter the canyon and are surrounded by trees and vegetation. I headed all the way to the end without doing any exploration. The hike in is roughly 3.3 miles. You climb up the slick rock roughly 200 feet for some nice views.
I turned around and started heading back. I did lots of exploring on the return. There were several faint trails I followed off toward the canyon walls. I found only one potential ruin and honestly it might have been "built" by modern man. On another sortie closer to the trailhead I felt I was heading in the right direction when I kicked a cactus! A glob of needles went straight thru my shoe into my foot. I spent the next fifteen minutes painfully pulling them out. When I finally could walk again I decided I had enough exploration. I made my way back to the regular trail and then headed out.
Once back to the car, I thought about my options. I could camp, get a hotel or head back to Phoenix. It was still early in the evening and I decided to head back home. It was a great day with no setbacks. Now I'm looking forward to next week! |
