We started our hike around 8:30am and made quick time on the Barbershop Trail. We passed by what would be the end of Barbershop Canyon on our way over to Dane Canyon. We hit Dane and started making our way up canyon. We made decent time considering there is no trail. We made numerous creek crossing and also had to work our over downed trees and other obstacles blocking our path. Overall, we made good time.
After a couple of hours, we reached the U-Bar Trail and took our lunch. I needed the fuel to continue. After lunch we cruised up the U-Bar Trail and found ourselves at the start of the Barbershop portion. The going was a little easier on Barbershop. There were several sections of "trail" that made for fast hiking. Things slowed down a bit in the middle because there was some thick growth and you had to constantly cross the creek. As we neared the Barbershop Trail, the canyon opened up a bit and we cruised the last mile back. From there we picked up the Barbershop Trail we were on earlier that day and we were back at the jeep in no time.
These are both fantastic canyons that I thoroughly enjoyed. It felt like a playground at times. The best moment of the day was spotting the pair of Bald Eagles on the ride home as we crossed the bridge by Fort McDowell Casino off the 87. They are close to the road on the southeast side of the bridge. |
