This is always good hike to do in the summer and it’s been a while since last time. We started on Barbershop Trail #91 parking at FR 145 junction and hiking into Barbershop Canyon. Once in the canyon we headed downstream for about 6 miles to the U-Bar Trail junction. Lots of water in Barbershop with a few pools deep enough for a good swim. Everything was spring green including the ferns which were not quite full grown.
Reaching U-Bar trail junction we took short break before heading up out of Barbershop Canyon on the first uphill of the day. The climb is short and not too steep before it levels out on McClintock Ridge. Then down into Dane Canyon which had decent water but less than Barbershop. Continued on U-Bar and out of Dane Canyon and over to Dane Spring. The spring is a really nice spot where we had late lunch and spring was running strong from a pipe.
After the lunch break we had about 4 or 5 miles back to the start. Staying on U-Bar back to Barbershop Trail we passed a few spots with water including Coyote Spring. The one exception was upper Dane Canyon which was dry although we probably could have found water not too far downstream. Got back to the vehicle by 4pm. Great hike and stroll through the pines!
