| no partners | | We decided to do this loop clockwise, mostly because I had never been on Y-Bar and it had been over 20 years since Karl had been on Y-Bar. We thought we would get what sounded like the tougher trail done first.
We got a little later start than we had initially planned on, about 8:30AM. We were the only car in the parking lot when we arrived.
Getting up to Cactus Saddle was a task, because of the steepness. There was a tiny section of pines that smelled wonderful. We took a break at the saddle before continuing on. I stayed on the new re-route trail and Karl scooted down to Y-Bar Basis and tried following the old route. We met up at the Divide Trail.
Traveling the Divide to the Brody Trail, the scenery was beautiful. There are tons of yellow flowers and the hillside was all yellows and reds. We had lunch at the Brody Trail intersection.
As we headed over to the Barnhardt intersection, dark clouds moved in. We were sprinkled on and heard thunder, but luckily no real rain.
We took a long break at the Big Kahuna. We attempted to climb around and just avoided heading down to the car. When we finally did start heading down, the ground got wetter and wetter as we walked. It must have poured rain on this side of the hill. I guess we were lucky for our later start, or we would have been hit by the rain!
We didn't see anyone else on the trails, and we were still the only car in the parking lot. |
