| no partners | | I'll remember this one for the color---green like Ireland, and the sadness I felt. This is another nice area near the Hellsgate in Tumacacori. I just wanted to get out for a short hike before the heat of the day. Very green and lush, probably one of the prettiest times for this area, still some pools from the monsoons. I ran the road out near the Apache Pass and followed a good developed trail over the saddle into the pass. Probably kept clear by illegals now. Below the saddle I just took off in a wash and went with it.
My father passed away a little over a week ago now and I cried for about 75% of this hike. Kinda hard for the off trail with tears in your eyes. I thought I was past this stage but I'm not. I'll miss the "quiet gentleman" as he was known; World War II vet, lifelong service to his country and responsible for making the almost 55 years I've been in this world a great pleasure.
Luckily the off trail and wash was easy to follow as a loop as I blundered along making pictures and wiping my face. Near the end as I graced the saddle again, I sucked it up and stopped blubbering. My Dad was no wimp, no use in my behaving as one now. I love you Dad, forever and ever. |
