| no partners | | I have to refer to this as the No Name Canyon hike. Leaving from Dutchman's Park or the TH on McKellips we moved up the siphon draw trail. Then we cut southwest on the Jacob's crosscut trail where it connects to siphon draw trail. After a mile and one half or more at a 15 ft boulder, we cairned a spot just south of the boulder to move off Jacob's crosscut and toward the canyon that is between siphon draw and Monument canyon. There is a sometimes faint trail moving toward the canyon. Essentially, we moved along what we perceived as the trail from one large boulder to another until we reached the wash entering the canyon. There we worked our way across the wash and to a trail above the wash on the south side. The trail seemed to disappear and reappear as we moved up the canyon toward the waterfalls. When we got to the falls and saw the hieroglyphs, we wanted to get higher to find more. We got to the arch on top of the waterfalls and discovered more cairns heading higher up. I'm not certain if they go to the top of the ridge line or not, leaving a hike for another day. My main curiosity was in finding the hieroglyphs that I had heard were in the Canyon.
We cairned the trail on the way out as far as the boulders, thinking anyone coming into the canyon could use the 20 foot boulders as landmarks to work their way into the canyon. I would like to know if this canyon has a name. I had not seen or heard of it having a name.
As we worked our way back to the TH, we spotted the deer ahead of us crossing the trail. A satisfying day when we found what we were looking for. |
