| no partners | | had pass mountain ridgeline in mind for some time
headed to usury mountain park right after work this morning and started just as it was getting light
up wind cave, to the south summit, then along the ridgeline
this is a great boulder hop and scramble
one false summit, one nice climb, and some flatter ground at times
enjoyed it immensely
signed in at the register, looked around, then made my way to the eastern high point, which offers the best views
initially was just going to return the way i came, but i could see the pass mountain trail saddle, and decided to head down to it
more scrambling and a couple of scree slides, which i don't much care for
got cliffed out once, but was able to bypass the dropoff
easy sailing once back on the trail
wanted some extra mileage, so added a loop on the cat peaks trail
after the ridgeline, the trail seemed a bit tame, and the last couple miles anti-climactic
i can see why some of you guys like the off trail stuff so much
would do this one again in a heartbeat, taking a different return
there are a couple of options posted, or do the out and back
had a gps route loaded, but like to figure out the path for myself if possible
had no problems route-finding
i can't imagine coming back here and just doing the regular trails
p.s.
have been up to the south summit three times, and haven't taken the same path twice
today i took some convoluted route from the south and don't recommend it
there are a lot of social trails above wind cave |
