1st trip
angela came up with this fun combo and was able to hike on a monday so i could go along
up peralta, down cave, up bluff spring, down lower bark's, back on dutchman
saw jack doing his ranger thing at peralta trailhead and chatted with him for a few minutes
a party of 30 was going to do bluff spring summit; luckily we were going another direction
headed up peralta with water flowing down the canyon
makes such a nice sound, too
saw a couple of arches i hadn't seen before and some nice little waterfalls
took a snack break east of the saddle
still some snow and ice up there, but melting quickly
headed down cave trail, which is always a favorite
thought i knew my way down but made one major and three minor wrong turns
luckily angela knows the trail well, saving us from some backtracking
saw one guy out on the steep lichen covered boulders and didn't think much of it
happened to peek out from an overlook, and he asked us where the trail went as he was cliffed out
got him back on track and he followed us down to bluff spring trail
along the way, took in the cairns and geronimo's cave, the devil's bathtub and slide
peralta/cave is a great loop by itself
at bluff spring trail, took a left and dropped into lower bark's canyon with a time out for some lunch
lots of water flowing, which we remarked on many times over the afternoon :)
not quite this much: http://hikearizona.com/photo.php?ZIP=303613, but enough to keep us boulder hopping and route-finding all the way down
stayed dry, but it was a challenge in a couple places
even i was in tibber-mode, and it was nice to take time to explore and gawk
eventually came to the dutchman intersection and headed back
lots of variety on this one
the good water flow should last another weekend or two
thanks for including me in this one, angela!
