Battleship was calling and Rachel was interested so Saturday was the day. We arrived at the First Water Trailhead around noon. It was a beautiful day and the parking lot was very busy. We signed the register and then started our hike. There were lots of people along the first couple miles of Second Water. It was a nice to see folks enjoying the wilderness!

We dropped down into Boulder Canyon which had a strong flow. The rains the previous week dropped a ton of water on the Supes! It took some work staying dry as we crossed back and forth across the creek. We continued and then hiked up the Tough Boots Highway and climbed up on the Battleship. As usual the views are spectacular and Rachel took a super quick photo once or twice. ;) We reached the summit and signed the HAZ summit register and then enjoyed lunch and started making the return.

As we neared the climb off Battleship we noticed a helicopter flying slowly down Boulder Canyon. It made several passes as we hiked back to the trail. I noticed SHERIFF on the side. We guessed they were looking for someone. After we were back on Boulder Canyon we made the decision to continue south and hike out the Dutchman Trail. I had delusions of grandeur in finding someone in need of help and providing assistance. We would only see a pair of backpackers.

We got back to Dutchman and headed for the trailhead. Rachel was very interested in the mine shaft on the north side of the trail. ;) From there we continued as dusk set in. We finished in the dark as cold temps set in. This was a really fun day and I'm glad I got to take Rachel up Battleship. This is probably my favorite hike in the Supes!
