| partners | | This was another crew visit on the 4 Peaks trail, which is getting all the love in the world right now in preparation for the International Trails Symposium hike in a couple weeks. After an hour getting to the TH on that horrible road, we headed out at 9:00 sharp. We were to head south and meet the trail crew wherever they were, but not more than 7 miles--I was thinking 5 to 6. I had portrayed this trip as not so much up and down, with plenty of great scenery. Not until I just ran the profile did I see that it was nearly 4K feet EC! Whoa, no wonder I'm hurting today. The scenery did not disappoint.
The entire trail will be reworked by the time this project is complete; there are less than 2 miles to go and there are 24 people working it right now, with another 8 day-8 person crew scheduled. They are widening and trimming and it makes for a very nice trail. When I hiked this in 2010 there were stretches that had disappeared under the brush all together.
We got to the crew, left them the standard bag of oranges and 2 pounds of chocolate, ate lunch and headed back. Lots of water on the northeast side of the mountain, nice breeze and great views.
Big Daddy's Pizza was closed, so it was burgers at Butcherhook, then on home the long way around. |
