| partners | | Joe,Bruce,Dave and I all meet up(4:45 ) to knock out another passage of the AZT. This trail sounded hard so we wanted to start by 7:00 to have enough daylight to finish. It took a little longer to set up shuttle so we didn't start until 7:30 or so.This trail turned out to be in better shape then I thought it would be. It did have a little overgrowth but we seemed to make it through that ok. No real route finding issues. The biggest issue was the 5-6 miles of frozen snow.It was very slick in places. The lack of coordination didn't help .I managed to hit the ground at least three times.I know they say leave only footprints (butt) I left more than that. The views of the lakes (Roosevelt,Apache) and mountain ranges were awesome. You travel through a variety of vegetation like Sagurao,Prickly Pear,Manzanita,Pine, just to name a few. There were also a few rock slide areas, cliffs, running creeks, dry water falls, frozen waterfalls, boulders, and snow covered trails. The views of Four Peaks up close from the east side were Awesome!Alhough this was a lot of climbing it was broken up in 4 or 5 smaller climbs so it didn't seem to wear me out quite as bad.We finished with about 15 minute of daylight to spare.Joe was a little under the weather but toughed it out.We wouldn't have left you, really .This was a great hike with great company finished off with a slice of Big Daddy's Pizza!!!MmmMmm.Thanks Gentlemen, for another great hike!!! |
