We cleared the Aspen Trail, from the towers down to Marshal Gulch TH, with a short side trip on the Mint Springs Trail. This was my first time on this very lovely trail. We met up as usual at 7:00 in east Tucson, loaded up the vehicles with cross cuts and bow saws, a pick and shovel, wedges, bug juice (WD40 to lubricate the saw) and headed up the mountain. The obligatory car tricks accomplished, we headed down the trail in the cool morning sun. First attack was a long log lying parallel on the trail, then a smaller one to trim back.
We had planned on 6-8 logs, but final count was 25, including ~12 large ones, and a bunch of smaller nuisance logs. The last one just above the TH turned out to be “rollable” off the trail, no saw work required.
Highlights of the trip were meeting Jasmine, A Simple Servant (A.S.S.) owned and loved by Leigh Anne, who also treated the bunch to lunch and homemade pie after the saw work.
Another Great Day on the trails! |
