| no partners | | I started out at the East Baldy trailhead (aka Phelps Cabin). My goal was to hike the Crossover Trail to West Baldy. However, I got about halfway there and lost the trail. There is a lot of downed timber this time of year, and big patches of snow. Where I lost the trail it crossed a grassy draw with a trickle of water. There was a cairn there, but I just could not find the next segment of trail. I ranged up and down that grassy draw, looking for it. I finally gave up and decided to hike off-trail back to my car, via Lee Valley Reservoir, and from there just generally following the highway, but staying away from it when I could, until I got back to where I had parked.
