| partners | | I had fun on this three day backpack, although, due to not feeling at all well the second morning, I missed out on hiking Hellhole Canyon. I was a party pooper back in camp, while the others went on. I'm glad I had a good book to read while I recovered. And it was very peaceful in camp all day.
The rest of the time we waded and swam and sunned, played ukelele, sang songs, and had a generally good time. This was my second hike there, and I definitely preferred it to a December hike which I did before. December in Aravaipa is pretty (autumn leaves) but too chilly for swimming. I'd rather be warm and be able to swim. Plus, I find summer's bright green cottonwood leaves to be happy and cheering, but fall colors often make me feel sad.
Note: I changed my designation to "backpack" from the default "Canyoneering." This is NOT canyoneering! There is a trail and it is very easy. "Canyoneering" has ropes and rappelling, packrafts and wetsuits, helmets and hardware. On an Aravaipa hike you can wear tennies, a bikini and a straw hat. Or wear nothing at all, if you want. |
