| no partners | | Needed to get out and hike and see wildflowers. I've heard that Go John can be just the ticket to flowers. I didn't want to get out too early so the flowers would have time to open. I decided I would go clockwise thinking that would be enough time for the poppies to open on the other side of the trail.... except, unbeknownst to me, the poppies and flora were on THIS side of the trail.
It was a beautiful morning and as I looked back I caught a balloon and the moon right on top of each other. I hope the photos turn out. As I started getting toward the top of the first hill I encountered poppies, lots of poppies and some scattered lupine and other flora.
Once I got up at the saddle and looked to the north, the scene of gold overwhelmed the senses as the sun's rays brot out the brittlebrush's most brilliant gold color. The hillside was covered .
And then as I got over the last of the hill and headed down into the quartzy section, more poppies, more lupine, more fairy duster. I had to go off trail to get the shots I wanted. It was an awesome start to the hike.
As I continued walking the poppies started covering the desert floor with lupine sprouting up. I would be photographing on one side of the trail only to turn around and see that the other side of the trail had even more poppy bounty.
And to top it off, I got to see the Easter bunny. He posed for photos and a movie. Once I started west up the north side of the trail, the flora dissipated. I was really rather grateful because at the rate I was going, I would be lucky to be back to the TH by sunset . However, there was still plenty of brittle brush covering the hillsides to warrant a photo or two or three....
Once I got to the top of the hill, there was this one section that was covered in those little yellow globe topped flowers. It was amazing. For the next mile or so the flora was limited to the blooming hedgehogs. And then the poppies and lupine started up again. I encountered quite a few people on this leg of the hike and a couple of the ladies were way too loud. Another couple said they had encountered a snake and another hiker had her rabbit ears on.
As I climbed the hill it was fun once again to have the brittle bush on both sides of the trail. This would also be the case on the other side as you head down the switchbacks to the TH.
I guess I would have to call this hike more of a walk in the park since I was in tibbermode but I always feel it's better to put my boot to the trail no matter the speed or level of difficulty. After all, I had just done Mount Ajo. Today was a good day as I saw 2 Easter bunnies, and lots of what my cousin calls, Easter lizards . The flora was awesome too.
Here are a couple videos and if you like flora, you'll like these videos - the first one includes the Easter Bunny (once again, for better quality it's best to watch in HD):

Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
