| partners | | We wanted to do an easy hike but also a loop. So we parked the vehicle on top just off FR 616 and bushwhacked down a side canyon. The top part was brushy but eventually it opens up and turns into an ATV track near the bottom where it comes together with Tom's Creek, Pivot Rock Canyon and FR 142.
From there we went up Pivot Rock Canyon. This lower section is wide following an ATV track with intermittent fern meadows, and even some occasional small pools. There were also two cabins as well but Kathy was the only one paying attention to see the second one up a side canyon.
Eventually the ATV track gives way to trail and the canyon narrows to by far the nicest section of the hike. The upper section is very pretty with dense pine, a few aspen and lots of ferns. About 1/2 mile or so below Pivot Rock Spring we came to the rock that gives the canyon it's namesake. We took a few pics of the peculiar rock and continued on to the spring. The spring is very nice tucked in the rocks with a cave opening that cascades over some mossy rocks below. Only downside was the bud light, coke, mountain dew cans along with a few other pieces of trash which we removed from the scene
From the spring the vehicle was just a short off trail route back to the road. Nice hike and really glad we made it a loop. |
