Happy New Year!!!!
I started the afternoon jogging on the Ute Pass Trail with Micah and Muesli to drop a package at the already closed Post Office. Micah got some swing time and watched some people ice skating and being pulled on a sled on the frozen lake by the Gazebo. My wife works on the first and daycare is closed so the big New Year hike I planned will not come to be. By 8 pm the sky was still clear and I decided since no one was staying up I'd hike up Mt. Esther to do a little night photography and see the AdAmAn New Years Fireworks from an un named peak above my house that affords unobstructed views of Pikes Peak. :sl:

AdAmAn was established in 1922 and Fred Barr of Barr Trail fame was a charter member. Anyway, every year since 1922 they hike up to Barr camp with guests and stay over night. They continue the climb to Pikes Peak summit and have a firework show at Midnight. The name comes evidently from inducting 1 person every year as a member from the previous members guests. It is fairly elite in that some guests climb as guests for 10 or more years before being voted as a member.

About 11:30 pm the wind picked up and I was happy I brought some primaloft socks and crocks. I packed my other socks and vff's into my fleece jacket I was wearing under the down to keep them warm. I was happy to get things set up, but arrived a little early and I was pretty much frozen when I started my hike back to the house.

I am still very much a novice. It helps that there is a light on top of the peak for focusing purposes. I knew I wanted the mountain with the light show, but opted to do the fireworks as a single exposure. Next year maybe a higher iso and taking quick shots of individual fireworks? I let the camera go took some shots with another camera and enjoyed a very 8) firework show. Because of the distance, the booms continued for 30 seconds after the last fireworks and an eerie haze lit up the sky. Hopefully, my family will join me next year for the festivities. :y: Happy New Year!! Looking forward to a great year. :D
