| no partners | | One of my best Ash Creek hikes ever! And I didn't even see the sawmill, slick rock or the falls.
The forest service has FINALLY redone Ash Creek Rd from Cluff Ranch after years of neglect all the way up to the lower trail-head!!! In the past, you needed 4x4 and a good amount of time to reach it or you just hiked in on the road like me adding 5 boring miles round trip to the lower trail. With this new road info, I just had to hit up the lower Ash Creek trail. As advertised the "new" road is in very nice 2wd medium clearance condition and for the first time ever I got to park right next to the trail-head sign, Great Start!
I then hiked an out-n-back up to the Oak Flat switchbacks really taking my time along this outstanding lower section. I've said it before and I'll say it again ..... The lower Ash Creek trail (from Oak Flat down) is every bit as scenic as the upper falls section that 95% of the hikers come to see. The lower trail has many more waterfalls, is much more lush and doesn't have all the deadfall that the upper section has.
I thoroughly enjoyed this trail today and am gonna have to call this my favorite hike of the year (so far) !!! Upper, lower or the whole trail - Ash Creek Always delivers !!! |
