I was filling up at the gas station when my Forest Service buddy pulled up and we had a conversation -
Him "Have you ever hiked the secret horse trail?"
Me "No, what secret horse trail?"
Him "The one behind our compound/horse corrals"
Me "I thought no one is allowed back in there"
Him "No one is, but I'll give you my key and directions if you want to check it out"
Me " "
Arrived at the FS compound and quickly found the trail. I first visited with the Forest Service horses and then took off down "their" trail that follows along Jacobson Creek/Canyon and ends at a big pasture 1.5 miles away. The best part of the hike was that the horses followed me down to the first creek crossing and were waiting for me an hour later when I returned, they then followed me back to the corrals.
I believe this was the first time I've ever hiked with horses
Also from the compound, I found a foot trail that leads into the backside of Angle Orchard. Wanted to explore the orchard, but it has an old electrified fence around the perimeter and I wasn't really sure how to check if it was activated I called a friend and he told me to pee on it
Decided to skip the orchard tour and returned back to the corrals where I then took a short trip up to a nice waterfall I knew about before returning home.
I consider myself a Pinaleno trails expert, but in all my years on the mountain I can't believe I never knew about this cool little trail
Great hike & another trail to put into the rotation!
