I decided to do a little hike on the way home after work today. Started at dusk and ended after dark. My GPS showed 4.27 miles RT 916 AEG. I hiked up to the 8A saddle, then up to the 8B saddle then down into the Preserve to the junction with Trail 8.
This is a very popular hike so I was a little surprised that it was not listed here on HAZ. I have hiked it many times in the past and I have started a Hike Description.
The trailhead is at the north end of North 32nd Street where it dead-ends at Lincoln Drive. This is a pleasant hike with a moderate climb.
I estimate that 85% of the people who hike this trail go the 1 mile to the 8A saddle and turn around. Another 10% go up to the 8B saddle and turn around. This hike up to the 8B saddle is ¼ mile RT with 90' AEG so it is rather steep. Only about 5% ever go north into the inner part of the Preserve. |
