We had hoped to get a permit for this hike as there is an awesome campsite up here but we didn't get lucky so we just had to hike it. As usual this couple miles of trail delivers so much bang for the buck.

The forest is still beautiful with nice space between the trees and grass blowing below. This time I noticed how close we were to the Rim to the east of us as we headed north. There was a variety of wildflowers out too and a critter or two as well. You go up a couple hills before hitting the plateau but not before passing the troob, still there in all its glory.

At the first viewpoint, I noticed a side trail so I went over on that to get a different angle. It was a great day so far, other than the bit of rain and overcast we experienced at Point Imperial just an hour or so ago. We continued on and hit every viewpoint, there are 4 and each is worthy of a look-see.

Along the way we did see a meadow of paintbrush. It was at quite a distance but I did zoom in for a couple pictures. At the main Viewpoint of Cape Final, the holes in the rocks were full of water from all the rain so we had to be careful where we sat. We also had a squirrel squirreling around us so had to keep an eye on the Tibber snacks. I'm sure he would have delighted in some seaweed squares :) . We sat for quite awhile taking it all in as there is so much to see from here :y: .

On the way back we continued to marvel at all of the wildflowers and the beautiful forest. As we were making our way down the last hill, Clyde and Chris were coming up to let us know the picnic at Cape Royal was canceled for various reasons. We were not happy about that as it's such a beautiful place to have dinner. Oh well . We went up there anyway to get our pictures.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
