A 366 mile day trip with Hannah and Lynn. After dropping off some odds and ends at NAU we were off to our first visit to the canyon. Our National Parks annual pass came in handy again giving us free access to the NM. Too bad our visit was cut short by a sudden thunderstorm that blew in from the San Francisco peaks. It was rather interesting seeing the 240 steps having their affect on the "hikers" caught below the rim as the storm blew in. Some just jogged out, some I thought were going to have a heart attack there on the spot! Guess varying fitness levels and altitude have that effect...

High-light of the trip had to be the meadows along Route 66 near the entrance to Walnut Canyon - a sea of yellow flowers and extremely picturesque!

I'd be interested in returning for the two Ranger-guided hikes; the "Ledge Hike" and the "Ranger Cabin Hike". Understand that these two hikes are to the west of the visitor's center. I'm curious about what archeological sites lie to the east of the visitor's center, particularly since the NM boundaries stretch for a considerable distance in that direction. Appreciate hearing from anyone familiar with the entire site!
