Gathered the group together early Saturday morning at the Starbucks by Hwy 60 and Stapley. Pooled our gear into 2 vehicles and made the 2 1/2 hour dash to the trail head at the end of FR410.
We were disappointed that some previously posted photos on 11/25 showed spectacular fall colours at Knolls Hole. Alas, on 11/18 I can report that the aspen were completely denuded and only the odd maple had a handful of red leaves. Did manage to capture a couple of photos with some colour. We'll have to put this hike on the list for fall colours next year (along with Bassett Peak).
For what the trail lacked in fall colours, it made up with some spectacular views of Pueblo Canyon, Cold Spring Canyon, and the northern fork of Devil's Chasm! When we got back to the trail head, pulled out the BBQ and had some tasty "brats and beer". Great way to finish up a hike!
There is a maintained, yet unnamed, connector trail between Trail #150 (Reynolds Creek) and Trail #142 (Center Mountain) that forms a convenient loop hike. I'll post my GPS route to share with others.
A couple of footnotes;
1. TH is 3.6 miles along FR410 from Hwy 288 (Young Highway), not the reported 6 miles in the hike description.
2. Description also mentions it is possible to access the TH by car if dry - you would be one brave soul to attempt this by car. There are a couple of washout areas that required some tricky negotiation with my high clearance F-150 truck. Mike's jeep had no issues...
3. Loop hike we took incorporating maintained, yet unnamed, connector trail between Trail #150 and Trail #142 was 4.93 miles long.
