Hannah, Riley, and I camped Friday night at the Leisure Trail Head at the east end of Moody Point Trail in Cherry Creek Valley, just off of FR203. Stars were amazing being in an isolated area with no artificial light sources. The Milky Way and Half Moon acted like a spot light on our camp site all night. Who needs a flash light? Darn wind flapped our tent most of the night though...
Saturday we climbed the 2500 feet up to the ruins and another 500 feet to join up on the saddle to discover where we went wrong trying to route find from the Workman Creek Trail Head at the west end of Moody Point Trail on an earlier attempt at a shuttle hike.
I now have enough material to complete a hike description and will merge the 2 sets of GPS data for a shuttle hike route (will try to get that posted later next week).
This was a tough hike testing us physically and mentally. Route finding wasn't obvious given the extreme overgrowth in areas. This resulted in a couple of "double-backs" and "split-ups" searching for the intermittent and infrequent rock cairns. From the looks of things, I doubt there has been any trail maintenance for a few years.
If you are looking for a challenge, may I recommend this hike! |
