With desert puppy Skippy. Started from Rock Wren trail access and climbed up the foothill summit. Made our way over to the permanent spring where the bullrushes are going to seed. Circled back to the main trail and headed up to the saddle. From there, walked down to the wash and headed back along the box canyon.

Friday night's mega-monsoon rain certainly had profound effects on the box canyon. Boulders have been rearranged. Rocky flats are now covered with sand. Some reasonably large trees have been washed away! Even saw some water trickling over some of the falls - a first for me...

Skippy took to hunting the many tadpoles that have appeared in most of the pools along the way. Don't know if these just hatched from Friday's rain? Curious as to what kind of frog or toad would have laid these eggs?

Wouldn't have believed this was a summer desert hike given some of the sights. Only the amazing sweat through all my clothes could remind me that yes indeed this is the desert...
