We arrived at the Horton parking lot around 11 and made our way across the bridge and up to the campground to start our journey. It was a slightly cool day with some strong winds. At times the sun was covered up by dark clouds. Glad I took a long sleeve shirt to stay warm.
We mostly followed the trail but at times we took detours down to the creek and followed it up a ways.
At the 2 mile mark we noticed an awesome camping spot on the other side of the creek which had nice rock chairs and an interesting log teepee thing. I noted the location and will definitely be remembering that spot for future camping. I'm sure it is a popular spot in the summer.
After another mile you come to intersection of a few different trails. We went right to continue onto the Horton Spring. Close to the end you pass through an open gate and over the water is a man made bridge out of 2 logs. Not sure why they are there since if you cross the log you go no where! We made our way up the hill and saw Horton Spring. It is mind boggling to see water gushing out of the rocks. The water just appears! I went even more up the hill and passed through a fence to find another nice camping spot. We rested here for about an hour and then made our way back to the car.
Only saw 1 person on the entire trail and she was taking selfies close to the trailhead. The rest of the trail was all ours. Didn't see any wildlife except for birds. I kept looking around for anything but came up empty. I was also mad at myself because I decided to leave my hammock in the car. Could have taken a nice nap at the end of the trail. Very beautiful trail with lots of shade. I would say it is a good trail for the fall season.
