Tom & I knocked off another passage (21) on the AZT this weekend. We're up to 70% done. We dropped one car at Bushnell Tanks Rd (FR22) and drove up the hill from the Punkin Center side. We drove 7 miles out on FR422 to cache water at Little Pine Flat and 9 miles back to the Pigeon Spring TH. This was a SLOW drive, 1-1/2 hours, so we got started at noon rather than the 11:00am I had planned.

From Pigeon Spring TH the trail follows dirt roads for 11.5 miles which isn't too interesting especially with the motorized traffic but there are some good views. We camped on Little Pine Flats which we made at 3:30pm. It was a quiet night but long given the shorter days this time of year. Day 1 was 8.76 miles and 1,286' aeg.

On day 2 we completed the passage. There were good views today also. The trail was faint in places for the first .9 miles after it left FR422 until it crossed Boulder Creek for the first time. Then it is easy to follow until it gets into the open. We kept losing the trail here and were glad we had our GPS units with the track. There was a lot of cats claw there too. After crossing Sycamore Creek there was one last hill which was not a long climb but it beat me up. I was definitely tired when we got back to the car. Day 2 was 11.57 miles and 1,319' aeg.

Glad to have this one done. Time to plan the next trip in March.
