| no partners | | If you're looking to do this as a section hike, NOW is the time! Can not believe the water availability!! Up top, it's not too cold and down low, temps are still good for hiking. The road up to the TH is long, winding, and - well - a mountain - but it is in good repair. My daughter dropped me off the the TH this morning at 8:10, with the promise of being at Sunflower this afternoon. Weather was perfect. First 11 miles are on road, therefore easy. I averaged 3 miles an hour for the first 11 miles, including breaks. Actually had intermittent cell service and was able to update my daughter, who spent the day at Roosevelt Lake. Several springs / run-off so there was water everywhere! Even though I liked making time on the road, was glad to turn off onto the trail. Doesn't waste any time getting down to Boulder Canyon. A couple spots looked like a good place to slide, so I just slowed it down to granny gear, picked my foot placement carefully, and had no issues. Lots of water in creek at bottom. Crossed easily several times but always stayed dry as there are rocks to hop across on. Temps were warm, but not warm enough for me to do more than dip my bandana in. Wildflowers are beginning to bloom at lower elevation of this passage. Manzanita is just, barely, starting. Catclaw at lower elevation really is thriving. Had a heck of a time with the trail that goes from the end of the passage over to Bushnell Tanks. After I crossed the creek, couldn't find it. Wandered around until I found the road, my daughter and car AND the chocolate milk!!  Great day. |

Wildflowers Observation Moderate
A bush COVERED with white flowers, looks like spirea??? Smells super! Manzanita just popping a few blooms here and there. At lower elevations poppies and many other flowers that I can not name are out. |
