If there's a more tranquil and pleasant segment of any SRP canal than this one, I haven't run across it. Very relaxing walk. On way back from McDowell, I counted only five bikers and a hiker. Oh, and a mallard couple.
Near the dam, a carp flopped around at the surface, belly-up. Could be dying or suffering from a sickly swim bladder. I don't like carp for food or sport but I hate to see anything in distress. I settled down at a table near Ramada 12, had a sandwich and watched a pair of American coots swim close. They're funny the way they push their heads back and forth while swimming like it's a real struggle. What a beautiful day! |
