The train was way easier than I expected. Everyone's told me how "scary" and "extreme" the chute climb is to the summit. I guess its all a matter of opinion (and experience??)
Frankie, Dane, Jeremiah and I set out this morning in Miah's man eating diesel truck. We passed some sort of low rider Mazda on the dirt road, the driver waved us down asking "is this the way to Four Peaks". 
We gave them directions but waited at two junctions to wave them the right way.
The TH was not crowded but there were 5 or 6 vehicles. We set off just behind the 3 Mazda guys and soon passed them well before the saddle.
Jeremiah had his 70 pound Boxer pooch with him so once we reached the chute he called her back. He and Mizu patiently awaited our return from the summit.
Halfway up the shoot one of the Mazda guys wasn't to keen about a scramble section so Frankie and I led the way with Dane behind to spot him. He was very grateful and together we all reached the summit with no problem.
Beautiful day, stunning views, clear enough to spot Humphrey's!!! 
Of course I whipped out my map and pointed out a section of the Skull Cave route 
This was my first time up here and I will return.
As I'm still recovering from "THE Flu" I got easily worn out on the climb down but nothing a few moments rest couldn't relieve.
Glad we didn't go for Brown's Brother, save that for another day when we are all feeling it.
One thing I'll remember from this trip is the great conversations and friendships that were strengthened. I know thus sounds stupid and cliche but honestly I feel a lot happier after today's hike. It reminded me of being back home at the Canyon. Maybe it was because the Mazda bots needed our help and we were able to assist. Maybe it was how easily the conversations flowed.
I don't know.
But I had a great day!! |
