Started at Snowbowl and the Humphreys Summit Trail in a beautiful 53 degrees. We set a comfortable pace and summitted in about 3 hours. 49 degrees and quite breezy up top, but was perfect in the rock windbreak. It wasn't very crowded on the way to the peak, but as we left, the masses were coming. We ran into fellow HAZ'zer ddgrunning on the way back to the saddle. The Humphreys Saddle was littered with people when we came back through.
Next, it was the Weatherford Trail. I love the look and feel of this trail. Where the Summit trail was clear of snow, the Weatherford had plenty of snow drifts left all the way to Doyle Saddle. This made what we thought would be a place to cruise down, a bit more of a chore. On the long switchbacks, we ran into Kyle (Toughboots), John (John9L), Larry (Squatpuke) and Lilly (as herself) doing a shuttle from the Inner Basin to Snowbowl.
We made our way over to the Doyle Saddle and had some lunch in the protection of the log circle.
I always forget how long of a walk it is from Doyle Saddle to the Kachina Trail. (Note to self, it's 5.5 miles). We passed more people coming up Weatherford, than we did going up to the Humphreys summit.
The Kachina Trail is a roller coaster (with great views) all the way back to the parking lot. Aspens, old growth Ponderosa, grasslands, rock outcroppings..
Fun day, great weather, great company.
Thanks for driving Turtle!
