| partners | | I had drawn this one up as "Plan A" for last week, but the weather did not cooperate. It worked out OK, since Wally was now able to join us... he said "as long as we didn't go to fast". I told him that shouldn't be a problem, since Joe had just come off a BIG Grand Canyon hike (and... I'd be there). He pointed out so much Supes history, ruins, landmarks, etc. etc..... that my head was spinning. Good stuff.
Not a cloud in the sky all day, gentle breezes, and recorded temps 65 - 92, typically in the mid 80's.
I just love the hike down Roger Canyon to the Ruins. The canyon had water in most places all the way down. The last 1/3 of the way down all the way past Angel Basin was jungle like... not Arizona like at all.
Wally and I did a quick tour of the Ruins

I'd heard horror stories of catclaw after here, but I received minimal scratches, and I'm usually a magnet for those damn things.
Just before Frog Spring, you start climbing out of the creek area and the cover of the trees. This 3 mile stretch is the steepest on the loop and pretty much fully exposed. Frog Tank Trail dead ends at the Reavis North #109. Finally some more tree cover.
We stumbled across a Black Rattlesnake next to the road.

We took lunch a bit south of Reavis next to the "Ditch". Gnats aren't just in the Valley right now. We prayed for a breeze to blow them away from us. Wally got to try out his new Sawyer Squeeze and filtered us 4 quarts for the return trip.

Good hiking with Wally again, filling my head with Supes Stuff.
Joe was tolerable. Just kidin' good times.... |
