Mrs. Nightstalker wanted to go for a hike today and I've been wanting to check out Calderwood Butte, sounds like a match made in heaven. I hiked Sunrise Mountain a couple of weeks ago and spied Calderwood from the distance. Took a drive by and, to my surprise, there was a trailhead on 99th Ave north of Jomax. We did the short loop up and around the butte. There are additional dead end trails that extend to the north and to the south from the main loop. Nice hike, rugged in spots. Real short loop! It's a good climb up from the desert floor and offers great views of the Agua Fria river.
