| no partners | | Got a nice cool early start this morning. Temps were in the low 70's! Did the loop counter-clockwise and was afforded plenty of shade for the first few miles! The plan was to head up into the Tonto and then take Trail 252 over to Elephant mountain. Once I got to the Rondo springs split, I followed a bunch of cairns to the north/northeast. I knew wasn't heading in the correct direction, but there were cairns, and the trail was interesting! Eventually the trail dumped into a wash and the cairns disappeared. I poked around for a while, but it was getting hot and I still had a lot of miles to cover, so I back tracked to a known track I had in the GPS and completed the loop.
Recent rains have really torn up the trails! Relentless softball sized rocks littered the trails and never let up! The trail in the Tonto is faint to begin with, and is now fairly overgrown.
It's still way to hot to do long hikes at Spur Cross. It was 101 degrees when I returned to the Jeep and I had blown through the 3+ liters I had with me! |
