| no partners | | | Great hike with Tricia and Lisa today! We got started at 6:00AM at the 24th Street and Euclid trailhead. Took Euclid over to the start of Geronimo and followed that trail to the end at the parking area and the junction with the National Trail. Took a side trip to the Pisgah overlook which was plenty worth the time and effort. Followed National to Hidden Valley and found a helicopter circling overhead while we were screwing around at Fat Man's Squeeze. Slid down a few chutes and though the tunnel. Helicopter was still circling when we got to National so we followed National back to see what was going on. Mountain biker crash on National just past where we had entered Hidden Valley. The rescue team put the rescue suit on the injured rider, connected him to the helicopter line, and off he went into the sky! Hiked back down National to Mormon and finally the trailhead. It was plenty hot by now (10:30) as we had spent a good bit of time enjoying Hidden Valley and observing the helicopter rescue. South Mountain is such a great place to hike!!! |
