We started at 7am, when it was still cool and nice. After 2,2 miles climbing up we reached the Josephine Saddle. From the saddle the trail continues up east with glimpses of the peak above. After a little bit we got to the Baldy Saddle. From there is up in steep switchbacks, when you gain most of the elevation. The last section is the steepest but the views are absolutely awesome. We have reached the summit around 11am and enjoyed beautiful views. The hike up was hard but rewarding. Unfortunately the summit was swarming with bees and flies so we decided to leave and get back to the cars.
This hike was done at the beginning of the monsoon season. Chance of thunderstorms are high, specially in the afternoon. We saw dark clouds forming as we got back to the parking lot. |
