| no partners | | I finished up with work a little early today, and the pending weather gave me ideas of taking a longer hike...this is the first hike I have been on in some time that I did not need my sunglasses for, kind of surreal. I made good time initially, but it started to sprinkle about a mile from the campground. I waited it out for a few minutes before stopping to stow all my electronics in a dry bag and grab my pack cover. The sky promptly opened up and dropped a ton of rain on me. There were some pretty close by lightning strikes, definitely a little close for my comfort level. When I got to the campground, I huddled inside the vault toilet (newer construction, didn't even stink yet!) to get out of the rain and re situate some things in my pack. I know huddling in an aluminum building in a thunderstorm is not the smartest ploy, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Now finally outfitted with my rain jacket (and completely soaked clothes otherwise) I left the privy and headed back to the trailhead, the rain stopped after about 10 minutes so I could take off the jacket again. Great views of Tucson and the Catalinas getting rained on. I had my phone packed up so not many pictures on this trip. Tanque Verde Peak was shrouded in clouds most of the trip, but it did pop out into view from time to time. Rincon and Mica were both out of view this whole trip. I did run into a few folks back by the trailhead, but otherwise another great dose of Desert Solitaire. |
