Glad I was willing to brave the afternoon temps for this one! I was able to finish up my work in Tucson early enough so I could hit the trailhead about 3 p.m. for a good jaunt before driving home to Phoenix. Best part: absolutely no one on the trail! Worst part: didn't have enough time to enjoy the canyon, I was just getting to the really interesting country when I had to turn around and head back. This has to be a fantastic hike after some monsoon activity, it was dry as a bone while I was in there for sure. Lots of blooming Agave chrysantha and Agave schottii, I also saw quite a few Erythrina flabbelloformis (Coral Bean) just coming into their splendor. Very cool stuff! Even got a bit of shade from the canyon walls on the way out. All in all, a great trip with some nice consistent elevation gain.
