| no partners | | I took the back way home from Tucson today to get in a hike in the Supes, it did not disappoint. Taking the 77 out of Tucson, I continued on to the 79, or Pinal Pioneer Parkway, one of my favorite highway trips. I eventually made it to the Lost Goldmine TH about 4:30 to start my hike, later than I wanted, but the best I could do today. I headed out west to the West Boulder Saddle trail, and then on up! This was my first time to this part of the Superstitions, I have been wanting to hike the east side of the Ridgeline for some time. Route finding on this one is definitely a need, I managed to get off trail a few times, but I did download a track to keep me fairly close to where I should be. I did have to stop just short of the saddle, the sun had gone down and I did not want to negotiate the steep areas in the dark. I did get a good adrenaline rush on the way out after I spooked a rattler in a nearby bush. I didn't see it, but pretty hard to miss the noise. I did not stay around to say hello for sure. I ran out of twilight by about the time I hit the LGM trail again, but this one is nice and easy to follow, I did not even end up using my headlamp. All in all, a very enjoyable hike out in some rugged country. Now on to the Superstition Ridgeline trail soon... |
