After doing 2 sections of AZT on Saturday and Sunday we headed for Pine to do the Pine Canyon Donahue Loop. Started the hike at the Pine TH heading out on Pine Canyon Trail #26. After 2 days of primo AZT we had to acclimate to what most Arizona trails are like although Pine Canyon Trail is still pretty good. We took this trail for little over 4 miles until it reaches East Rim Trail where the fun begins. This trail is extremely steep and rises 1000 feet in just 0.6 miles according to the triplog. The top half of this trail is what makes it all worth while with some cool scrambling for about the 400 to 500 feet of elevation gain. The views are excellent of Pine Canyon and surrounding area with each sandstone platform providing more climbing fun.

Eventually East Rim trail tops out on Milk Ranch Point where the trail ends. From here we headed off trail over to the high point of Milk Ranch Point (I use that term loosely) for lunch. After lunch we continued off trail to FR 9382L which took us down to the Milk Ranch Point road. This part was definitely the easy part being several miles of road walking. After about 3.5 miles we made to the end of Milk Ranch Point and linked up with the Donahue Trail.

Decent views going down Donahue Trail which was short only 2.6 miles down to where it intersects with Highline Trail. From there we took the Highline trail back to Pine TH to finish out the loop. Nice loop...definitely want to get back and do East Rim Trail again.
