Only after arriving at this trailhead did I remember that I'd been here before, years ago, to hike to the Wind Cave! The Pass Mountain loop was the plan for today though, so I stuck to it. The views are wonderful. I spotted a baby desert tortoise. At the pass itself, I stopped to have brunch. (Did you know that Safeway's Signature Cafes will take any of their cold soups that are stocked up and heat them up for you to take out? I didn't but now I'm hooked for future weekend hikes. Jambalaya, yum.)

It was a tad warmer outside than ideal, but stopping in the shade was easy to do and very effective.
