| partners | | This was the destination hike of our getaway to Sedona. You just have to hike a mountain named after yourself once in your lifetime. Had noticed that Bear Mountain was also on Pam's wishlist, so she joined us for this "easy" hike. Was hoping some of her photographic wisdom would rub off on me. It didn't.
We all pushed off from the trailhead just before 10 on a perfect morning. Just after 10 we were totally out of breath. This trail gets both steeper and more beautiful the higher you go. We scrambled in the few places required and slogged upward and onward the rest of the time. Pam and I stopped often to take photos (at least that was my excuse when I needed to catch my breath). Mary Jo just seemed to keep going no matter what. The views never stop and there are so many places to take dramatic photos.
Had lunch at the top. A little hazy, but the views were fantastic from up there. Could see the snow-capped San Francisco Peaks so very clearly.
Going down was a little faster and we passed a lot of people still heading up.
Back at the trailhead, we were happy and tired. We all said our goodbyes and headed off to apply beers and motrin to our tired muscles. This is a great hike made even better by finally meeting Pam. |
