| partners | | this trip has been in the works for some time
we've scheduled it at least twice, and postponed from last weekend
with perfect weather, we finally got up here for bear and wilson mountain
did this one a few years ago, but it's such a great hike that i wanted to do it again
angela is always up for a good peak
i left work an hour early but we didn't get on the trail until close to 11:00
a short warmup through a wash and across a grassy area, then a series of somewhat steep climbs followed by some level ground
nice views from the first level, where you're almost even with the top of doe mountain
this is a fun trail with varied terrain, interesting rock, and a couple spots of full body hiking
great scenery throughout
we took our time with photos and gawking
had lunch at the striated rock area overlooking fay canyon - my favorite spot on the hike
one last push to the summit
much better views than i remembered from last time
hung out on the summit for awhile
chatted with a guy from cottonwood we crossed paths with a few times
different light and perspective on the way down
angela had her pumpkin spice beer at the trailhead
this is one of my favorite hikes in az, in my mind the best of the sedona hikes
drove up to mesa grill on airport mesa for a nice dinner
a little late for the best views from there, but still a nice spot
stayed at the sugarloaf lodge, a clean and reasonably priced little motel |
