| no partners | | I saw that some new trails were added to McDowell Mt. Park, so since the weather is nice, I decided to get up early and get a quick hike in before heading out to a Super Bowl party. There was a race there today (Xterra?), but they let me park since my planned hike was in the north end of the park and the race in the south end. When I got to the parking lot, there was a big fire by the picnic tables and music playing. Looks like a lot of people camped out overnight.
I got started before sunrise, but only needed the headlamp for about 10 minutes. The wet grass had a look like broken glass from a car window on the ground. I took the Tortoise Trail up to the campground, then Wagner to Granite to Lariat to Pemberton to Delsie and back onto Wagner back to the lot. When I downloaded my route on my computer, I noticed that the north end of the Pemberton Trail has been re-routed to the south a little bit. Now I have to hike that new section since it's a trail I've never done.
On my way down the Delsie Trail, I spotted a hawk having a mouse for breakfast on top of a saguaro and also what looked like a deer running off. I was only able to get a photo of the hind end of that.
Done before 11am, back home before noon. Nice exercise without the monotony. |
