| no partners | | Things have been busy lately, so I haven't had a chance to get out hiking. Decided to use the opportunity and go back up to the new northern expansion of the MSP. I started from the Granite Mtn trailhead this time and headed south on the 136th St. Express Trail, then did a zig zag pattern back up along the Monument, Morning Vista and Dixeleta Trails. After Dixeleta, I walked the entire Turpentine Trail west to east and did one more little loop along the Bootlegger/Saddlehorn/Granite Mtn/Powerline #2 trails, and back to the car. Just short of 11 miles before 11am.
The Granite Mountain area of this preserve seems to be the nicest. The boulders look nice and the saguaro forest up there accents it well. The trail runners seemed to be finishing up when I arrived just after 6am. After that, I only saw some bikers and a horseback rider. My thermometer said the temp never got over 100, looked stuck at 95. When a rare breeze would hit, it made it very pleasant. |
